A luxury living showcase for affluent and discerning buyers

When major developer London Square required an interior design firm to create a two-bed show home at its exclusive new Nine Elms development on the South Bank, they invited us to pitch. Our reputation for creativity, innovation and attention to detail meant we had everything they wanted.  Needless to say, we leapt at the opportunity to design an opulent apartment that represented the very best in luxury living in the newly regenerated area. Close to landmarks such as Battersea Power Station and the US Embassy, Nine Elms has become a magnet for wealthy Brits and overseas investors looking to secure a slice of our capital city. Apartments are marketed as second homes or as a pied-de-terre London base, with London Square selling an astonishing 27 units before building work was even completed. The residents’ lounge and 24-hour concierge service told us everything we needed to know about the scale of ambition here. This is how we did it justice…

London Square Nine Elms is everything you would expect from a chic metropolitan home and more. From the hardwood floors and custom-built wardrobes to the premium cabinetry, fixtures and fittings, the high-end finishes really helped elevate the furnishings and decor. It was a joy to work on such an exclusive, highly-considered development.

Project Brief

Our job was to fire the imagination of potential buyers, making them visualise themselves living, working and entertaining in the apartment. Importantly, the final design had to have an instant impact that would create an emotional response. Our design needed to fuse the best of classic and modern, creating a sophisticated look that had style, charm and finesse. And above all, it had to deliver optimal convenience and functionality, using clever storage solutions to make the most of every square inch of space. In addition, the finished apartment needed to photograph well, leaping off the printed page and digital screen. It certainly did its job, because our finished show home was purchased within just one week.

Aesthetic

To underpin the overall look and feel of the apartment, we selected a soft colour palette. The inviting combination of calming tones would give an instant sense of sanctuary, contrasting perfectly with the frenetic pace of life in modern London. At the same time, every fixture, fitting and finer detail had to project sophistication, comfort and opulence. Indeed, buyers expect quality and elegance to be the hallmarks of their dwellings, and it was our job to deliver those unmistakable touches. To achieve this, we specified rich, tactile finishes and unique pieces, creating talking points throughout the apartment. These pieces also reflected the affluent local area and injected a chic London-esque style. Meanwhile, carefully designed custom-made pieces gave the apartment an added feeling of exclusivity.

ROOM BY ROOM

Kitchen Dining

The kitchen is an inviting dining area that includes a sculptural dining table by Tom Faulkner. A standout piece that extends the finishes from the living area, tying these key spaces together.

Living Room

The angular living and dining area was one of the most challenging spaces to design in terms of furniture layout. After all, we needed to ensure footprint did not appear to compromise space. Following careful consideration, we decided to work WITH the irregular shape, using it as a strength that projected character. One of our favourite pieces in the room is the sculptural drop-brass pendant chandelier. Adding to the rich metal tones found throughout the space, this feature piece sets the tone from the moment one enters. Other noteworthy pieces include the Lily cocktail table, with its eye-catching, lemon-yellow textured glass, and the bespoke sofa with rounded end, upholstered in a luxurious velvet with infused jewel tones.

Master Bedroom

We commissioned an eye-catching dressing table made from Breccia Capraia Italian marble and featuring green and purple veining. Supported by an 8mm rolled metal plate, powder coated in a metallic bronze spray finish, it represents a cornerstone of elegance. Meanwhile, diamond-shaped pendants created by European artisan glassblowers added beige, brown and white tones, which cast a warm, earthy glow around the super king size bed. We also added bedside tables that are bespoke pieces made by one of our trusted furniture fabricators.

Second Bedroom

In the second bedroom, asymmetrical design for the bedsides enabled us to include a desk area and bespoke fitted storage in the alcove. The bespoke bedside table features solid wood that match the wood finish of the fitted wardrobes, bringing a satisfying consistency. Finally, geometric wallpaper adds the finishing touch and complements the warm tones projected throughout.

Terrace

The terrace is the homeowner’s private, al fresco vantage point on the world outside. We coordinated potted plants with comfortable furniture to create a contrast with the urban cityscape beyond. Sympathetic voiles finish the overall aesthetic, giving the space an effortless look.
